    Avenue Q - The Musical

    Presented by Singapore Repertory Theatre
    Esplanade Theatre
    30 Oct - 16 Nov 2008

"The Internet Is For Porn", "I'm Not Wearing Underwear Today", "It Sucks to Be Me".... These are just some of the hilarious songs that make Avenue Q unlike anything you've ever seen before. Currently one of the hottest shows in the London's West End and on Broadway, Avenue Q is a fabulously furry and fun-filled romp featuring an ensemble of actors and some very adult-minded puppets. It's "Sesame Street" with a very grown up twist!

You'll meet Princeton a fresh-faced college grad, Brian the out-of-work comedian, Internet porn addict Trekkie Monster, Nick the good-hearted slacker, Rod and his investment banker roommate who seems to be hiding a secret, kindergarten teaching assistant Kate Monster and of course Lucy the Slut. They get away with things that only puppets can without being arrested.

Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to make it in New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account.

So take a trip to Avenue Q!

    BOOM

    Presented by SRT'S Stage Two
DBS Arts Centre - Home of SRT
    18 - 28 Sept 2008

After sweeping the Life! Theatre Awards 2006 with her hit play, Everything but the Brain, award-winning playwright Jean Tay takes on a subject close to every true-blue Singaporean's heart – land.

On this tiny red dot, where sand is as precious as gold, and both living and dead jostle for space, Boom tells the story of a stubborn old woman and her property agent son, who are struggling over the en bloc sale of their home. Their destinies become linked with that of Jeremiah, an idealistic civil servant, who is facing the greatest challenge of his career – persuading a reluctant corpse to relocate.

Welcome to the surreal world of Boom, where the dead aren't allowed to rest in peace and heaven is a luxury sky villa with A1 designer decor. The line between living and dead, between fantasy and reality, is constantly blurred in this comic yet poignant tale about en blocs and exhumations.

Featuring Sebastian Tan as the property agent Ah Beng who still dreams of being Superman, and a talented ensemble cast including Brendan Fernandez (Boeing Boeing 2005), Fanny Kee (Scrooge –The Musical), Chermaine Ang (Everything but the Brain) and the ever-popular Chua Enlai (MediaCorp's My Sassy Neighbourand Heartland Getaways).

Don't miss the most exciting original Singaporean play to be staged here since Everything but the Brainin2007.

If there is only one Singaporean play you watch this year, make sure its Boom!

    The Pillowman

    Presented by Singapore Repertory Theatre
DBS Arts Centre - Home of SRT
    26 Mar - 6 Apr 2008

Olivier Award for 'Best New Play' (2004)
Tony Award nominee for 'Best Play' (2005)

First staged in London and New York three years ago, this critically acclaimed play makes an exciting debut in Singapore under the direction of Tracie Pang ('Best Director' nominee - Life! Theatre Awards 2007) and stars a compelling cast of actors - Michael Corbidge ('Best Actor' nominee - Life! Theatre Awards 2007), Adrian Pang ('Best Actor' - Life! Theatre Awards 2007) and Dan Jenkins ('Best Supporting Actor' - Life! Theatre Awards 2007).

The Pillowman, written by celebrated Irish dramatist Martin McDonagh, marries comedy and psychological drama. Set in an unnamed totalitarian state, Katurian - a fiction writer of gruesome fairy tales - has been dragged in by the police for interrogation about crimes committed in his community. They bear an uncanny resemblance to his books. As the police inspectors perform their good cop/bad cop routines to get to the bottom of the case, the audience will be led into the darkly funny and brutal world of the writer's, and perhaps even their own imaginations.

Staged late last here in November.
