Accessibility in the arts continues to be an important agenda for Singapore Repertory Theatre and SRT’s Centre for Creative Learning. Supported by Temasek Foundation and developed in partnership with Access Path Productions, Accelerate Access is an intensive professional development programme aimed to develop expertise among teaching artists and deepen their understanding of disabilities, accessibilities and inclusive arts.
At the same time, the programme is also geared at building arts exposure for D/deaf, Autistic and Disabled young people in Singapore through classroom practicum sessions conducted by the teaching artists after their training.
We are proud to have invested in training 9 selected practitioners this programme cycle, and here’s what they have to say about the programme!
“Now I know more about what inclusive arts is, and how the culture is like. It inspires me to rethink what art is, and how we could use arts to encourage a broader way of expression as well as to communicate with a bigger circle of communities.”
- Daisy, trainee for Accelerate Access Year 2
“The training was transformative for me in several ways. The different speakers were not only informative but also thought-provoking and inspiring, challenging my artistic practice and prompting me to unlearn and relearn so much. Many of my questions and concerns were addressed, and the process was overwhelmingly positive. I can confidently say that I am no longer the same teaching artist I was before this experience,”
- Vishnucharan, trainee for Accelerate Access Year 2
“I enjoyed the lesson plan sharing. Being exposed to the different teaching styles and ways to scaffold topics was informative. The feedback given by the teachers from Rainbow Center was useful too. The trip to the National Gallery and the talks presented by the staff were crucial for us to learn what supports were important to people with disabilities, e.g. transport, tactile interactions, etc.”
- Isabelle, trainee for Accelerate Access Year 2
“Thank you for this amazing opportunity and thoughtful planning. It was beneficial to hear from practitioners and educators who can critically break down their rationale, based on their learned and applied knowledge.”
- Su, trainee for Accelerate Access Year 2
“It was a stimulating and uplifting experience to share an intensive week with the young trainees who were passionate about making a difference in their respective classrooms. Following Accelerate Access training, I believe they have been well equipped to go out into the world now and generate positive impactful learning experiences tailored to neurodiverse communities.”
- Grace Lee-Khoo, lead trainer for Accelerate Access
