Venue Access at SRT

SRT aims to provide an excellent experience and service for all patrons who may require additional support to access our venue and enjoy our events.

The term ‘Access’ refers to the ability to access any service and therefore highlights the adjustments made to support a patron’s journey to SRT, our venues and performances.

Since 2018, access services have featured in over 30 SRT productions, including Audio Description, Creative Captioning, SgSL (Sign Language Singapore) Interpretation, and Relaxed Performances.

Visual Stories and maps to our venue from the nearest MRT station are available.

If you have an Access enquiry, please contact us at learning@srt.com.sg or call 67338166 from 10am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

  • Creative Captioning (CC)

Captioned performances are designed for d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons. In a captioned performance, the actors' speech and descriptions of audio elements such as sound effects and music are displayed in text on a screen(s) located near the stage. The trained captioner(s) will operate each show live to ensure they adapt to the unique elements of each performance. Seating is specially allocated to provide an optimal view of the performance and the caption screen(s).

    Singapore Sign Language (SgSL) Interpretation

Sign Language Interpreted performances are designed for d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons. In an interpreted performance, there will be a trained interpreter(s) in a visible position on or near the stage. The interpreter(s) will sign speech and dialogue in the show using Singapore Sign Language. Advised by The Singapore Association of the Deaf, seating is allocated for each SgSL performance to provide an optimal view to both the show and the interpreter(s).

    Audio Description & Touch Tours

Audio Described performances are designed for blind and vision-impaired patrons. In an audio described performance, the visual elements of the show are verbally described and transmitted to patrons through their own smartphone and earphones. Descriptions include but are not limited to body language, facial expressions, set changes, and text.

Accompanying this service are Touch Tours, which take place on stage prior to the performance. Touch Tours allow patrons to familiarise themselves with the set, costumes, and key props, with accompanying description by the describer(s). Download the Sennheiser Mobile Connect app now prior to your visit.

    Relaxed Performances

Relaxed Performances are designed to allow patrons a more ‘relaxed’ theatre environment. Patrons who may benefit from this performance include those who are on the Autistic spectrum, living with Dementia or have diverse learning and communication needs. Lighting and sound cues may be adjusted to be less startling. A designated quiet space is made available, and patrons may freely exit and re-enter the auditorium.

A visual story is available as part of a Relaxed Performance. It provides details on the performance and venue for those who wish to familiarise themselves with what to expect prior to their visit.

    wheelchair access at SRT

    Wheelchair Accessibility

KC Arts Centre – Home of SRT is accessible for wheelchair users to enter the venue from both the front and rear entrances. There is currently 1 wheelchair space on row Q in the theatre stalls. If you require a wheelchair space, or would like to understand more about transferring options, please contact our venue team at boxoffice@srt.com.sg or 6733 8166.

SRT is developing plans to increase wheelchair seating and support better access to the theatre.

    Visual Stories / Maps

Visual Stories are visual aids that demonstrate what to expect in preparation for a visit to the theatre. They accompany a Relaxed Performance so you may familiarise yourself with the show and our venue prior to a visit. They are also a great tool for anyone visiting KC Arts Centre for the first time.
