  • Bring Shakespeare to your school assembly!

I, Peaseblossom is a 45-min, one-person professional performance taken from Tim Crouch’s production I, Shakespeare. It tells the story of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream through the fevered dreams of a neglected fairy – Peaseblossom, one of Lady Titania’s fairies, who only has four lines with a total of five words in the entire play! The role of Peaseblossom will be played by theatre veteran Daniel Jenkins.

I, Shakespeare brings together Tim Crouch’s take on four Shakespeare classics: Twelfth Night, Macbeth, The Tempest and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. These solo pieces are written for student audiences but their originality and strength make them suitable for any age. Each play in this collection combines the need to tell Shakespeare’s primary story with an opportunity for the secondary characters to finally have their say – Malvolio, Banquo, Caliban and Peaseblossom. Each play is different but all display a formal inventiveness and a philosophical playfulness that make them stand alone as brilliant examples of contemporary theatre.

    About I, Peaseblossom for schools

Suitable for a school assembly format, SRT’s production of I Peaseblossom puts the character in the centre stage of a school environment, offering the students a chance to understand the story and characters from a new perspective. The actor arrives in school, in costume and with a box of props by his side. Some simple pre-set dressing will be used, but hand props will lead the design predominantly. The actor, accompanied by a stage manager, will present the play using no more technologythan sound effects to underscore and enhance the experience. The focus of the programme is to offer a high-quality learning experience, led by a professional actor and supported educationally by an experienced Learning & Engagement team from SRT.

The performance can be supplemented by either our Shakespeare Comes Alive! or All the World’s A Stage workshops.
