The Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT), together with Corum, proudly presented The Theatre Ball by SRT - Carnevale di Venezia. SRT presented a new facet of theatrics, with a breath-taking masquerade affair that gave audiences the opportunity to lose their inhibitions and ignite their creativity. As Oscar Wilde had said, “Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask and he will tell the truth!”
A Feast to Fill Your Senses
Fashioned after the famous Italian Carnevale in Venice, possibly the most celebrated and famous masquerade ball of all, The Theatre Ball by SRT surprised and entertained with sketches reminiscent of the Commedia dell’Arte, titillated senses with a visual feast of colorful costumes and masks, and tempted taste-buds with authentic Italian cuisine.
Inspired by Art
“We are very honored to be involved with the inaugural The Theatre Ball by SRT. The creators at Corum have consistently been inspired by art, which is reflected in our timepieces. We firmly believe that art inspires style and consequently, fashion. We have chosen to support The Theatre Ball by SRT because of our ongoing need to draw inspiration from art and our commitment to inspire people by it,” says Deepa Chatrath, Country Manager for Corum.
A Heady Carnival
The Associate Artistic Director of SRT, Dick Lee, was the host for the ball and was all set to surprise with the entertainment he had lined up. With an organizing committee that included Mrs Silvana Scalaci (Wife of Italian Ambassador to Singapore), Mrs Ann Lavin (Wife of American Ambassador to Singapore), Mrs Heike Meyer, Mrs Celeste Basapa and Mrs Olga Iserlis, The Theatre Ball by SRT was nothing short of a glittering night of carousing with many of Singapore’s celebrated personalities.
In line with the Venetian tradition, guests came in masks and costumes. The heady carnival-like atmosphere was made even more fun with luxurious Corum watches given away to guests with creative costumes.
